Scottish singer and CHVRCHES front-woman Lauren Mayberry has released her first solo single “Are You Awake?”
Mayberry co-wrote the melancholic tune with Grammy Songwriter of the Year Tobias Jesso Jr. and pop-punk artist Matthew Koma added the finishing touches to the arrangement.
In a TikTok video, Mayberry shared that “Are You Awake?” was a “happy accident” that came together on “a grey, rainy afternoon in December” while she was feeling “pretty homesick and missing everyone.” Luckily, she found a kindred spirit in native Canadian Jesso Jr. as “people who are not from America living in America.”
Mayberry is set to embark on her first solo headlining tour beginning September 4th, along with support dates for The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie’s joint tour.
