Another notable return to the world of live music was Canadian Power Metal titans, 3 Inches Of Blood, returning to Milwaukee for the first time in over 10 years!

Taking to the stage with the warrior’s call of “Battle And Brotherhood,” thunderous drums and furious fretwork soon became the veritable anthem of the entire weekend. This song was instantly responsible for setting off a wild circle pit into motion and a brigade of metalheads ready to charge into Hell itself.

As I watched this, I began to ask: Can a band be both powerful and uplifting? Both Savage but make you feel recharged? Have the wildest mosh pit, but filled with only the happiest people? This is the duality that the world has lost a bit while 3 Inches Of Blood were on hiatus.

Seeing them rip through anthems like “Trial Of Champions,” “Night Marauders,” and of course the fist-pumping “Deadly Sinners,” brings back the up-tempo side of what Metal can be. This band is the audio equivalent of playing an Action Game with the invincibility cheat mode and infinite ammo! The crowd was filled with oddly positive thrashers indulging their deep-seated wishes to act like Vikings and recreate their favorite scenes from Lord Of The Rings or Game of Thrones.

Ultimately, 3IOB gave the crowd one last parting taste, with the sky-splitting shrieks of “The Goatriders Horde.”
