The Austin, Texas trio Urban Heat stopped at Rubber Gloves in Denton, Texas on August 15 while on their tour, The Tower.

Upon first listen, Jonathan Horstmann‘s deep baritone vocals offer a unique element of surprise. Their sound is reminiscent of the past while still being fresh and modern, so classifying them as darkwave synthpop Version 2.0 seems perfectly fitting.

Their new album, also titled The Tower, was released while they were playing their show. The band’s excitement surrounding its release was evident throughout the evening. When introducing the song “Take It To Your Grave,” Horstmann exclaims, “This is the last time I can ever fucking say this…would you like to hear some unreleased tracks off The Tower?”

The venue was adequately packed for a Thursday night in Denton and the majority of the crowd knew the songs and sang every verse, with raised fists pumping in the air for emphasis at the appropriate times.

The 15-song setlist contained four new tracks off of The Tower, including the previously mentioned “Take It To Your Grave,” which will be the next single off of the album. They finished big with back-to-back fan favorites “Seven Safe Places” and “Have You Ever.”

After their hometown album release show in Austin on August 17, Urban Heat continues on the road with The Tower tour through October 13th, then they head to Europe to play as support for Molchat  Doma.
