We caught up with Dead Cool fresh off the road with Astari Nite to see what’s been spinning lately – and it’s exactly the kind of dark, danceable mix you’d expect from “everyone’s goth BFF’s.”

Formed in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2020, husband-and-wife duo Johnny and Angela Yeagher have carved out a space that blends darkwave, post-punk, and synth-pop into something that feels both nostalgic and completely their own. What started with punk roots evolved during the pandemic into a synth-driven project built on programmed beats, layered textures, and hooks that stick long after the lights come up.

And they don’t just sound the part – they live it on stage. Dead Cool have become fixtures in the dark alternative scene, with appearances at Absolution Fest and Dark Castle Fest, bringing a full atmosphere with them every time: fog-heavy, visually dialed in, and packed with those catchy dark anthems that pull a crowd in fast.

That same energy carries straight into their Current Rotation. Alongside their own tracks like “Stranger Kind”, “Story of Another Life” (2025), and their haunting take on Real Life’s “Send Me An Angel,” their playlist dips into artists who sit in that same late-night, synth-laced world: Youth Code, Buzz Kull, Rosegarden Funeral Party, Sleek Teeth, Fotocrime… It’s a mix that leans melodic, moody, and built for movement.

If you’ve caught Dead Cool live, then you already know…this isn’t just a playlist, it’s an extension of what they do in a room. The aesthetic, the sound, the energy – it all connects.

They’re back out this month, so if this rotation is your lane, here’s where to step into it:
