Music Fiends caught up with ADULT. before their show at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio in Denton, Texas on April 25, 2026, while North Texas skies were doing their best to shut the whole thing down. Sirens, warnings, the kind of weather that usually clears a room. Not this time. Not this band. Not this interview. Nice try, weather. With the sky threatening to crack open any second, we set up camp on the venue’s outdoor stage. It’s eerie post-apocalyptic vibe facade seemed a fitting backdrop for the interview and would also offer us protection from a possible downpour.…a double win.
If you know ADULT., you already know “safe” has never been part of the equation. The Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller-led Detroit duo has spent decades carving out a sound that’s equal parts abrasive and addictive. Sharp-edged electronics collide with synth-punk aggression and performance art instincts, and a streak of dark humor that cuts just as sharply as their sound. Their live presence carries that same voltage. It’s confrontational without being alienating, chaotic but completely controlled, and it’s wired to hit harder live. Nothing about ADULT. feels passive, and that’s exactly the point.

Their latest release, Kissing Luck Goodbye, dropped in March via Dais Records, and it pushes even further into the band’s signature tension between mechanical precision and raw human expression. It’s coldwave with teeth, industrial textures with personality, and lyrics that land somewhere between detached observation and full-on confrontation. It delivers tracks that feel both tightly controlled and ready to snap at any moment. It’s not a reinvention. It’s a sharpening. The record feels like a natural evolution, but not a comfortable one. ADULT. doesn’t do comfort.

That same energy carried straight into our conversation. They talked about their creative process, what artists they’re excited about right now, WTF is going on with this social media driven culture, and the wild journalist comparisons thrown at Nicola – Siouxsie Sioux, John Lydon… and somehow Anthony Kiedis? Make that last one make sense! The interview was loud, sharp, and honest…. a conversation that hit just as hard as their music. Even with a storm literally circling overhead, the focus never broke. If anything, it made the whole moment feel more on-brand.

Because honestly, what’s more fitting than interviewing ADULT. under a sky that looks like it might collapse at any second?
The interview was a blast. The storm didn’t win. And Denton got the show anyway.
