For Urban Heat, the post-punk, goth trio hailing from Austin, TX, 2023 was quite a whirlwind of a year!
In March 2023, Urban Heat joined fellow goth rockers Vision Video on a 3-week trek across the East Coast and into Canada. The tour was extended into August and they hit the West Coast, selling out many shows along the way. They played to packed audiences at their official SXSW gigs at Stubb’s Outdoor Amphitheatre, the Austin Chronicle’s day party, and a SPIN party.
May saw Urban Heat returning to the West Coast to play Cruel World Fest in Pasadena, CA, where they joined a stellar lineup that included the likes of iconic musicians Siouxsie, Iggy Pop, and Gary Numan, and Darker Waves in Huntington Beach, CA where their set was acknowledged as one of the day’s best and they played to their biggest audiences yet.
On July 6th, the band will play the goth festival, Obituary Fest, in Dallas, TX. Urban Heat’s latest album, The Tower, is set to drop on August 16th, followed by a massive release party in Austin on August 17th. This fall the guys will head out on their first European tour as the supporting band for Molchat Doma.
Formed in 2019 by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Jonathan Horstmann, keyboardist Kevin Naquin, and bassist Paxel Foley, the band’s live shows are energy-packed, crowd-engaging experiences. Horstmann’s deep, throaty baritone vocals deliver a unique sonic take on their brand of goth melodies. Music Fiends had the chance to chat with Urban Heat after their killer set at Dark Ceremony Festival in Houston, TX on June 15th about their new album, their upcoming tour with Molchat Doma, and the disappearance of Jonathan’s trademark ‘stache.
