Lizzie Edwards of Lizzie & The Makers Goes Under The Probe!

Brooklyn, New York’s Lizzie & The Makers might be 3,000 miles away from David Lynch’s Twin Peaks and the Double R Diner, but you wouldn’t know that by watching the video for their new single, “Mojo Hand.” Says frontwoman Lizzie Edwards, “I wanted to make a video somewhere in the woods and incorporate a spooky seance of sorts,” and the band delivers. I wonder if the owls are what they seem…

“Mojo Hand,” off their November 5th sophomore release Dear Onda Wahl, is packed with a witchy, woodsy vibe and a heavy dose of shoegaze. Explaining the inspiration for the track, Lizzie explains that mojo hands, “protect from evil spirits and [are] purported to have magical powers. One day, the Mojo Hand fell out of [guitarist] Greg’s kitchen cabinet and hit him in the head. Thus a song was born.”

The Makers, Lizzie Edwards’ impressive backing band, have played with such music legends as Gregg Allman, Sadé, Digable Planets, Keith Richards, David Byrne, Black Crowes, and Jesse Malin. Reigning in all this rock and roll experience David Bowie producers Reeves Gabrels and Mario J. McNulty. But despite their classic pedigree, Lizzie insists, “we wrote these songs… through a David Lynch portal.” The results go down easy, like Agent Dale Cooper’s “damn fine cup of coffee.”

In anticipation of Dear Onda Wahl, Music Fiends recently put Lizzie & The Makers under The Probe:

  1. If a roach crashed your rehearsal space, would you run or would you kill it?

I would probably find something heavy to throw on top of it and then make someone else dispose of it, haha.

  1. Does anyone in the band like to play practical jokes? If so, what’s one of the all-time best ones?

I would say Greg is the best practical joker, but I’m a fan too. One of the best tricks while on the road if someone is sleeping in the front seat, you park head-on in front of a parked truck at a rest stop. Then you all scream really loud and the person wakes up and sees the truck and thinks we are still moving and about to crash. It’s pretty dark, but works every time.

  1. What’s the last gift you received?

A t-shirt from the Barnacle Parade in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

  1. If you could pick one thing about yourself that you’d like your fans to know, what would it be?

I try to live every day in the moment and am in constant search of my most authentic self.

  1. What music are you listening to lately?

I’m listening to a lot of PJ Harvey lately – the Rid of Me Album to be specific.

Lizzie Edwards & The Makers play their record release at The Cutting Room in NYC on November 10.
