Payge Turner + Jace Allen’s new single, “Underwater,” is a soulful, jazz-influenced rock song with a philanthropic heart. The single, out November 5th, is the first of two releases from their collaboration benefiting The Clean Slate Initiative, a non-profit that “raises money for social justice reform and clears the records of those formerly in the prison system, who commit to staying-crime free.”
From Seattle and Colorado respectively, Payge Turner and Jace Allen are perfectly suited for collaboration. Turner has an amazing voice, one that landed her a top 12 finish on NBC’s The Voice. It has a timeless quality that harmoniously melds with the genre-defying of Allen, a venture capitalist turned philanthropist, who has played music in every genre under the sun. Says Allen, “I will only release tracks that mean something to me and most of them will have a good story behind them.”
The duo put their money where their mouth is, as all proceeds from purchases of “Underwater” on Bandcamp go directly to Clean Slate. Additionally, Jace Allen will donate $1,000 per 100 downloads and $1,000 for every 10,000 streams to the charity. It’s a grand gesture that only sweetens the pot of an already enticing listen that also features members of Third Eye Blind, Bruno Mars, Lake Street Drive, Avril Lavigne and Beyonce’s backing bands.
With such charitable natures, you know Turner and Allen love their pets! Music Fiends recently caught up with the artists to ask, “Who’s your little friend?”
Payge: “This is Walter and Spooks my adventure boys. They love playing with each other, but only on their terms and usually when the other doesn’t want to. When we get a chance, we love to enjoy some outdoor nature time. Spooks likes to do this thing where he’ll disappear for a day and night to scare us a little, then he’ll come back like a random surprise underneath a car or by a dumpster. Walter is our funny singing/talking energy ball! He’s the best tenor I know!”
Jace: “This is Gordon Lightfoot! Ironically this little guy can’t meow but gets his points across by a lot of other noises. He likes to lie in the studio and play with guitar pedals. It is his favorite toy.”
