Peter Yanowitz from Princess Goes….Goes Under the Probe!

princess-goes---joe-gall

“We’re a weird band,” states Princess Goes drummer Peter  Yanowitz. He’s right, but they’re weird in a quirky, unconventional, and irresistible way.

Princess Goes is led by the charismatic vocalist, lyricist, musician, and actor with the signature voice – Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under, Lazarus), alongside keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie, Cyndie Lauper), and drummer Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers, Morningwood).

In March, Princess Goes dropped their second full-length album, the 12-song LP, Come Of Age, via SO In De Goot Recordings.

The New York City-based trio have been recording DIY-style for the last few years, and self-produced and released a self-titled debut EP in April 2020 and their first full-length, Thanks for Coming, was released in 2021. The Associated Press applauded the lineup’s “mix of glam, dreamy ‘80s New Wave, acoustic folk, Nine Inch Nails intensity,” while Billboard made note of the trio’s “palpable theatricality.”

Princess Goes will be playing Riot Fest coming up September 21st in Chicago, IL. Also slated for September is the release of the Come of Age deluxe album, which can be pre-saved here.

Check out Princess Goes drummer Peter Yanowitz’s responses to our probing questions about time travel, conspiracy theories, and superpowers below!

Music Fiends: 1. What does everyone else seem to like that you can’t stand?

Peter Yanowitz: Torturing/killing animals and then eating them (or more specifically having others torture and kill animals and them eating tjem with no thought about the animal or the responsibility for the torture and death)…Sorry to get so dark, but this keeps me up at night.

MF: 2. If a roach crashed your rehearsal space, would you run or would you kill it?

PY: I’d eat it.. just kidding.. I’d try and catch it and release it outside

MF: 3. If you could pick one thing about yourself that you’d like your fans to know, what would it be?

PY: I was born in the 60s and came of age in the 80s.

MF: 4.  If there was a time machine and you could travel back to anywhere at any point in time, where/when would it be and why?

PY: I’d Quentin Tarantino it up and try to go kill Hitler before he rose to power.

MF: 5.  What’s your favorite conspiracy theory?
PY: Any theory involving Sasquatch, the abominable snowman, or the Lochness monster being real.

MF: 6.  What’s an embarrassing moment you’ve had where you just wanted to disappear on the spot?

PY: On the Lilith Fair tour way back in the day when, right in front of me, Natalie Merchant told Bonnie Rait that I had a wet dream about Bonnie the night before (which was true!).

MF: 7.  Tell us something your parents grounded you for when you were a kid?

PY: My 10th grade girlfriend Sue used to sneak in my window in the middle of the night so we could sleep in the same bed together.. she would sneak out before dawn. One night it snowed when she was there and my parents could see her footsteps in the snow leading from my window.

MF: 8.  If we were in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, who are three people you’d want on your team?

PY: Mike and Matt from princess goes obv.. and my wife Lisa.. she is a libra and a midwife, and she would be able to provide us health care whilst also protecting our food supply and making sure we divide it evenly, and that it lasts as long as possible.

MF: 9.  If you could choose a superpower, what would you pick?

PY: I already have a superpower.. it’s being in bands for so long.. and picking the right bandmates..(going on 30 years of being in bands)

MF: 10. What music do you currently have on rotation?

PY: I love the new Justice record, Hania Rani, Bomba Estereo (Amanacer), Boredoms (vision creation new sun)
