Voodoo Glow Skulls, Authority Zero, and Piñata Protest had the crowd at the Granada Theater in Dallas in a punk rock frenzy for the closing night of their tour across Florida and Texas.

Piñata Protest frontman Álvaro Del Norte brought the fire with fierce vocals and an even meaner accordion. The band tore through a wild set, blending their signature fusion of classic Mexican Tejano and punk rock, delivering a high-energy performance, including their 2023 single, performed entirely in Spanish, “La Chona.”

They also pulled deep cuts from their discography, reaching all the way back to 2012. True to punk spirit, Del Norte didn’t hold back. He made a bold political statement mid-set, giving a defiant thumbs-down and shouting “fuck ICE” in protest of immigration policies.

Authority Zero, hailing from Mesa, Arizona, played a phenomenal set. Hitting hard, the group has played stages for 30 years with songs like “A Change In The Tide,” and “Lights Out!”

The band’s style is rooted in reggae and skate punk, with Spanish/Portuguese influences that fit the mark for the tour. Frontman Jason DeVore did not hold back, even with an injured, booted right foot, and had the crowd’s circle pit going hard with songs like, “Ollie Ollie Oxen Free,” from their 2021 self-titled album.

The night ended with headliners Voodoo Glow Skulls as relentless and heavy as they’ve always been since their debut album Who Is, This Is? The ska punk band formed in 1988 in Riverside, California, by brothers Frank, Eddie, and Jorge Casillas and their longtime friend Jerry O’Neil. The band has been featured on several of Epitaph’s Punk-O-Rama releases and are still going strong.

Frontman Frank Casillas was in top form as stage divers flew into the crowd and Mexican flags waved beside his masked figure. The horn section was on fire, and Eddie Casillas’ ripping guitar work added fuel to the chaos. The night reached a fever pitch when members of Piñata Protest jumped on stage for the final songs, including fan favorites “Charlie Brown” and “El Coo Cooi” from their iconic 1995 album Firme. It was a wild, unforgettable Saturday night blowout that fans won’t forget anytime soon.
