The midnight dreampop alchemists Magic Wands are back to cast another spell. Their new album, Cascades, arrives October 24 via Metropolis Records, promising a journey through shadowy gardens, crumbling castles, and moonlit rivers. The record weaves together their shimmering past and their experimental present, bridging the luminous hooks of their 2012 debut Aloha Moon with the deconstructed textures of 2023’s Switch.
The lead single, “Time To Dream,” is already unfurling like a sonic incantation, joining previously unveiled tracks “Hide,” “Armour,” “Moonshadow,” and “Across The Water.” Together, they shimmer with dark post-punk tones, layered guitars, and vocals that sound like whispers from another century.
“Cascades was born from a fascination with how the past lingers inside us and explores transformation and the spaces where timelines blur into one,” Magic Wands explain. The record drips with gothic romance, myth, and spectral echoes of old-world poetry…music you can almost see in candlelight.
Formed in 2008 by Dexy and Chris Valentine, Magic Wands first bewitched listeners with Aloha Moon before mapping out constellations across Jupiter (2016), Abrakadabra (2018), Illuminate (2020), and Switch (2023). Each record has been a portal, new worlds to wander, new shadows to chase. Now, Cascades feels like both a homecoming and a transformation, steeped in nostalgia yet beckoning toward uncharted horizons.
The duo will summon their new songs to life at The Substance Festival in Los Angeles on November 7, with more shows to follow.
Over a decade since their first spellbinding release, Magic Wands are still bending time, painting dreamscapes, and slipping silver threads of moonlight through every riff. Cascades isn’t just an album, it’s an invitation to step through the veil and stay awhile.
