Mari Kattman, widely recognized for her work as one-half of the electronic duo Helix and as a solo artist, has officially joined the roster of Metropolis Records. Her third solo album, Year Of The Katt, is set for release on June 20th.
Leading the way is the first single from the record, “Anemia,” which is available now. Built around a pounding kick drum and deep bassline, the song layers a hauntingly seductive vocal over a steadily intensifying synth line. It draws a unique and provocative connection between the idea of vampiric exploitation and the physical fatigue experienced by individuals dealing with iron deficiency.
“This song stemmed from my own current iron-deficient state, which is an extremely frustrating condition that can take a year or more to correct,” explains Kattman. “I thought that the context needed to make it onto the album, and it was actually the last track I wrote for it while I was completing the mixing of all the other songs. I’m glad it made it on there!”
Since 2012, Kattman has been a standout figure in the electronic music world, writing, producing, recording, and performing live. She has collaborated with a wide range of influential artists including Assemblage 23, Mesh, Ivardensphere, Jean-Marc Lederman, Psy’Aviah, Aesthetiche, Neuroticfish, BlackCarBurning, Cassetter, This Morn Omina, Solitary Experiments, Mephisto Walz, Aiboforcen, Interface, and Comaduster, among others.
While her many vocal features highlight her versatility, it is Kattman’s work as a solo artist that truly showcases her strengths as a songwriter and producer. Singles like “Fever Shakes,” “URGOD.AI,” and “Swallow” have already established her ability to craft bold and infectious electronic tracks. Her music combines elements of Trap, Hip Hop, Electro, Ambient, EBM, and Industrial, woven together by her unmistakable voice and magnetic presence.
Year Of The Katt promises to further cement Mari Kattman’s status as a dynamic and visionary force in modern electronic music.
