11 Year Ago Today Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch Passed Away

11 years ago, the music world was faced with a massive blow when news broke that Adam “MCA” Yauch had passed away from cancer at the age of 47.

Yauch, a founding member of the rap-rock trio the Beastie Boys, was a practicing Buddhist and also well-known for his humanitarian efforts, having launched both the Tibetan Freedom Concert as well as the Milarepa Fund.

Yauch had been diagnosed with cancer of his parotid gland and lymph node in 2009. After undergoing surgery and radiation treatments to combat the cancer, he finally lost his battle with it in 2012, just a few weeks after the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

At the time, fellow bandmate Adam Horovitz stated via social media, “As you can imagine, s— is just fkd up right now. but I wanna say thank you to all our friends and family (which are kinda one in the same) for all the love and support. I’m glad to know that all the love that Yauch has put out into the world is coming right back at him.”
