Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett has brought us newer music than we anticipated!

Although she has her upcoming album, Things Take Time, Take Time dropping November 12, Barnett surprised us with a sweet little tune “Smile Real Nice,” the theme song for the newest animated adaptation of Harriet the Spy for Apple TV+, which is based on the classic children’s book written by Louise Firtzhugh.

Written and performed by Barnett herself, she keeps to her trademark sound whilst adding a sense of youthful innocence combined with a rebellious energy. It’s perfect theme-song material, something we wouldn’t have expected out of Barnett during such a busy time in her life.

Speaking of busy, Barnett’s latest music prior to Things Take Time, Take Time includes her single, “Write a List of Things to Look Forward To,” released  back in September with two other songs, “Rae Street” and “Before You Gotta Go.”

As if a theme song to a beloved children’s book and a new album weren’t enough work, she *also* created an interactive stem mixer for the three singles off the new record, allowing fans to mix and meddle which each song to their liking. The mixer was built and designed by Rahael Ong and Sean Lim.

Courtney Barnett’s  THINGS TAKE TIME, TAKE TIME releases NOVEMBER 12. Watch her song in Harriet the Spy, streaming on  APPLE TV+ NOV. 19.
