Judas Priest’s Rob Halford Opens Up about Cancer, Remission

Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford recently disclosed in an interview with Heavy Consequence details of his quiet battle with prostate cancer throughout the pandemic, after long rounds of tests for symptoms back in 2017.

Halford addressed his cancer and remission in the updated paperback version of his memoir, Confess.  “I had my little cancer battle a year ago, which I got through and that’s in remission now, thank God. That happened while we were all locked down, so things happen for a reason as far as time sequence of events. I have nothing but gratitude to be at this point in my life, still doing what I love the most.”

Halford underwent a prostatectomy to remove the prostate gland. However, in early 2021 more cancer was found, prompting routine chemotherapy and an appendectomy to remove a tumor found on his appendix. He was given the all-clear in June.

“It’s been a draining year, I can’t deny it, but I’m delighted to have come through it,” Halford writes, “I feel like I’ve had the most thorough MOT that a Metal God can have.”

This news comes with great surprise, as guitarist Richie Faulkner had suffered an aortic aneurysm on stage at Louder than Life on September 26th. He was rushed to UofL Health Jewish Hospital for a 10-hour cardiothoracic surgery. He is currently recovering at home.

Confess was released in September 2020 via Hachette Books.
