Kills Birds serves up their second single off of sophomore album Married via Royal Mountain Records & KRO Records with an official pandemic-inspired video.
Complete with an invitation from Dave Grohl himself to record the album at Studio 606, Kills Birds has earned their skilled set-up for stardom. The band currently has 2021/22 tour dates for over a dozen shows with Foo Fighters and Sleigh Bells, as well as a confirmed performance at The Great Escape’s First Fifty.
Kills Bird’s intrinsic vocals and captivating visual presence are brought by Canadian vocalist Nina Ljeti and the impressive (yet chaotic) instrumentals by guitarist Jacob Lebb and drummer Bosh Rothman. Between the television set, Ljeti’s darting blue eyes and the camera’s inability to sit still, “Cough Up Cherries” music video is eerily reminiscent of Foo Fighters “Everlong” in sound and it’s really fun watching bands reinvent the sounds we knew early on into something more provocative and sharpened.
Ljeti elaborates on her take of the newest single; “There are a lot of themes to Cherries, as it was written during the height of the pandemic in 2020. The song touches on feelings of loneliness, paranoia, and hopelessness that we all experienced. In addition, Cherries also addresses the identity crisis we all face in the digital age. What our performative personas are vs. who we really are when we’re left alone, and if in the midst of great injustice, we are actually able to hold our own selves accountable.“
