Austin, TX post-punk band URBAN HEAT has released a new track, “Say the Words,” off their upcoming second full-length album, The Tower, that drops August 16 via Artoffact Records. Listen to “Say the Words” (out everywhere now) below and pre-order their upcoming album here.

With a new album soon to be released and with a tour to follow, Urban Heat is on track to make their 2024 even more amazing than their 2023, where SPIN Magazine was quoted as saying the band had hit “America’s goth underground in such a blitz that it feels like it suddenly arose from the ether” and that singer Johnathan Horstmann‘s star power is more present “than any Austin musician in recent history.

Regarding the new single, in a recent press release, Johnathan Horstmann said it is, “one of the most personal songs I’ve written.” About the writing process, he goes on to say, “I was walking into a coffee shop one morning, and the chorus just popped into my head. I’m always thankful when songs come like that. It was just WHAM! Then I had to make sense of what it meant and write verses. The bridge ‘If we build an honest life, but we build it on a lie, where can you find the fault?’ was particularly hard to write. Not in the sense of finding the words, but struggling with the emotional implications as my wife and I were beginning to have our struggles. We’ve since separated and returning to that song and many others on the record can be quite hard for me.”

He also shared that The Tower is the most personal record he’s made, as he deals with fatherhood, sobriety, relationships, and the state of the world as a whole.

“This record is the first fully complete artistic and emotional statement from this band, and we’re thrilled and anxious about releasing it to the world,” Horstmann continues. “The Tower is all of my fears, anxieties, and insecurities made manifest, and it will be so healing to exercise these internal demons alongside the amazing community that has formed around this project.”

Formed only 5 years ago by Horstmann, Urban Heat’s appearances at major California festivals Cruel World in Pasadena and Darker Waves in Huntington Beach exposed Urban Heat to their biggest audiences yet…and the crowds were there for them. Their energy-packed live shows and captivating darkwave anthems, fueled by Horstmann’s melodic baritone vocals and the driving beats from rhythm section Kevin Naquin and Paxel Foley, Urban Heat have been successfully winning fans over show by show.

Be sure to catch them on the road soon! Dates below:
