Depending on who you ask, it’s either a very good time to be a Modest Mouse fan or a very bad one. No one can say that the band’s latest effort, The Golden Casket, has made it a boring one, however. Frontman Isaac Brock’s synthy, punky, and at times, finger-snappy musings on subjects like fatherhood, the fear of technology killing the ability to make human connections, and very regrettable acid trips came in a little tepid for critics. But if Metacritic is anything to go by, it’s the best fan-received Modest Mouse album since 2007’s We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.
Recently, the band dropped into Vevo, looking somewhat like organic farmers in a dystopian future, for an exclusive live performance of two tracks from The Golden Casket: lead single “We Are Between” and album closer “Back to the Middle.” Check out the videos of their performances below.
