Following the release of their critically acclaimed new album Birna, Wardruna have officially embarked on their highly anticipated North American tour, and I had the privilege of photographing the very first night at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 4th.
The tour is an extension of the group’s ongoing world journey, which has already taken them to breathtaking settings across Europe, from ancient ruins to open-air stages surrounded by nature. This leg adds new milestones, including Wardruna’s live debut in Spain and Portugal, and festival stops at Germany’s Summer Breeze Open Air and Romania’s Rockstadt Extreme Fest. Later this summer, they’ll headline the Fire in the Mountains festival in Montana, set against the wild backdrop of the Teton Range.
Wardruna are no strangers to awe-inspiring venues. Past performances include the Odeon of Herodes Atticus at the Acropolis in Athens, as well as the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Their live shows are more than concerts; they are immersive rituals where music, history, and landscape converge into a singular experience.

The new album, Birna, took three years to come to life, written and recorded by Einar Selvik along with longtime collaborator and vocalist Linda-Fay Hella. Lyrically, Selvik explores humanity’s deep and complicated relationship with the bear, both mythic and real, while reflecting on our present-day connection with the natural world.

From the first haunting notes of “Kvitravn” in Fort Worth, it was clear: Wardruna are not just touring an album, they’re guiding audiences into a space where myth and music blur, and where the modern stage becomes a vessel for something timeless.
