Sextile’s performance at the House of Blues in Dallas on Tuesday night was a compelling mix of urgency, energy, and raw post-punk flair. Opening for Belarusian dark, new-wave post-punkers Molchat Doma, the LA-based three-piece band took the stage with a no-nonsense approach, instantly grabbing the attention of the crowd with their visceral, synth-tinged sound while founding member Melissa Scaduto walked the stage’s length and waved a flag emblazoned with the word “Sextile.”

Sextile is no stranger to the Dallas area, having previously played at Deep Ellum’s Double Wide and Denton’s Rubber Gloves. The band is currently on tour in support of 2023’s Push and has a new album in the works they’re planning to drop this May.
The venue continued to fill at a rapid pace until the space was packed. Fans eagerly awaiting the headliner knew they were witnessing a special treat as Sextile delivered a set that was equal parts abrasive and captivating, and the band seemed right at home in the House of Blues’ intimate but energetic atmosphere.

Founding members Brady Keehn and Melissa Scaduto, joined by new addition, drummer Lia Braswell, were relentless and fed off the crowd’s continuous enthusiasm to deliver a stand-out performance. Sextile brought a more in-your-face edge that made for a nice contrast to the cool, synth-heavy stylings of the headliner that were to come.

For those who arrived early, their set was a perfect primer for the more atmospheric sounds of Molchat Doma, but also a reminder that Sextile is a force to be reckoned with on their own terms—proudly blending retro sensibilities with a modern edge that leaves the audience both exhausted and hungry for more. Catch Sextile on tour supporting Molchat Doma through March 7th.
