Walking down a rainy sidewalk, the capital city of Madison glowed brightly. As I turned around a sharp corner, a large red sign that read “Majestic” revealed itself. Reminiscent of a movie theater board, Allie X was being broadcasted as tonight’s show. The line outside moved quickly as the doors opened and we started trickling inside. The venue was narrow but used its height to its advantage. Immediately to our left took you upstairs to a very comfortable balcony. Walking straight took you to the stage floor with multiple levels, ensuring even the shortest person would have a chance to see the show.

What once was a modest crowd, turned into a packed venue with little room to move around. Violet Chachki catwalked herself onto the stage as the crowd cheered. Being known for her time on RuePaul’s Drag Race, it was surprising to see her wear a very modest black dress. As she sang her first song, she started slowly ripping off bits of her wardrobe, revealing a one-piece covered in nude-colored rhinestones. “This is my first tour doing live vocals,” Violet Chachki said after a costume change. “Thank you to everyone here for being allies.” Her vocals beautifully captured her essence as she sashayed her way around the stage. She sexily sang her last song, “Mistress Violet,” while cracking a whip at the audience before strutting off the stage.

The room remained dark between sets. As the first song started playing, a character dressed in black and wearing a white mask appeared on stage. He motioned hand signals as the audience motioned them back. Two girls in white half-masks appeared and threw out ballroom masks for the crowd to wear too.

As soon as the music picked up pace, Allie X revealed herself as a black silhouette in a white mask that was standing back center stage. She threw off her mask and cape and started singing and dancing. Without missing a beat, the audience picked things up and sang along too.

Allie X’s vocals can only be described as weirdly beautiful. The setlist focused heavily on her newest album, Girl With No Face, which was released earlier this year. She pulled out some major show stoppers, such as “Weird World,” “Bon Voyage,” and “Off With Her Tits.”

“This was a very isolating process making this album,” Allie X said as she thanked us for supporting her tonight before diving into her final songs. We ended the night with Allie X taking off the white sunglasses she wore the entire set to serenade us with her song “Truly Dreams.”

Allie X’s artistry along with her elegantly powerful vocals made for a fantastic night. The friendship between Allie X and Violet Chachki created a very fun indie music tour. The Majestic’s multilayer venue is a small diamond perfectly situated in downtown Madison. For the crowd members not ready to end the night, countless bars lined the streets. The rain was still trickling down as I walked through the streets, trying to decide if I should keep my night going too.
