Imagine my surprise when I learned to time travel about 3 weeks ago…
I’m in my office, working as usual, when I find out I’ll be helping with the MATTE BLVCK shoot in a few weeks. I decided it was time to do my homework, and that’s when it happened….
I heard three of my favorite bands for the first time, again… combined into one band, MATTE BLVCK.
And then, I got to hear them live…
On Friday, November 8, 2024, Andy’s Bar in Denton, TX, was the place to be for fans of darkwave and post-punk music. Not even the rainy night could keep fans away, as MATTE BLVCK was playing a near-capacity show with SEVIT and Social Order on night two of their tour.
SEVIT took the stage first and set the tone with their unique pop-goth sound. The four-piece from Dallas quickly won the crowd over as their moody, immersive tracks showcasing their haunting vocals and brooding guitar melodies filled the venue. The audience, a mix of loyal fans and new listeners, loudly welcomed the band to Denton. Check out Bandcamp for more on SEVIT and to purchase their recently released self-titled debut LP.
Social Order, the darkwave three-piece from Vegas, was up next as the venue continued to fill to capacity. Mason Musso, the band’s lead singer, engaged with the crowd throughout their set, making the room seem larger yet more intimate at the same time. Opening with “Boys” and closing with “Worst Way,” the band’s two biggest tracks, gave their performance a fresh and memorable feel. For more info, visit https://www.socialordermusic.com
Finally, headliner MATTE BLVCK, an electronic band from San Diego, CA, closed out the show with a powerful set that perfectly captured the intensity of the night. Their dark, pulsing beats and deep, resonant vocals, along with amazing lighting and laser effects, created a hypnotic atmosphere.
The band played fan favorites like “Midnight & Angel” and “BTTR,” drawing the audience into their richly layered soundscapes. MATTE BLVCK’s commanding stage presence and the raw emotion in their music left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to have been there. Visit https://matteblvckmusic.com/ for more info.
The night was a testament to the vibrant music scene in Denton, and it left the crowd buzzing and wanting more. Now…. If I could only find a way to actually time travel back to 7:00 pm on November 8, 2024, and do it all over again.
