What would you do if your band suddenly found itself in the predicament of being the last-minute openers for the legendary punk rockers Bad Religion after the tour’s co-headlining band had to drop out with virtually no notice?
Some bands of lesser substance might not have the balls to dive in headfirst and do whatever it takes to win over a pissed-off crowd. Baltimore’s co-ed feminist hard-core punk band, War On Women, proved they do indeed have those kind of balls…and then some. After landing a juicy gig as openers on a tour with Bad Religion and Alkaline Trio, they were suddenly thrust into this challenging position when, due to circumstances beyond their control, Alkaline Trio canceled their performance in Dallas, TX at the last moment.
Angry grumbles from concert-goers could be heard while waiting in line to get into the show and some people actually left, preferring a refund. Others had driven in hundreds of miles just to see Alkaline Trio play and they were furious about the last-minute set-change. But once the lights lowered and War On Women took the stage to lukewarm applause, it didn’t take them long to prove themselves worthy of the spot they were in and make fans out of even the most irate people in attendance.
By the second song, their driving drumbeats, catchy guitar riffs, and singer Shawna Potter’s impressive hair-swinging abilities had turned the crowd into a fist-pumping, moshing collection of happy, sweaty bodies.
Their latest album, Wonderful Hell, is available now and it’s their first release to feature the band’s current lineup of Potter, guitarist Brooks Harlan, bassist/vocalist Suzanne Werner, guitarist/vocalist Jennifer “Jenarchy” Vito, and drummer Dave Cavalier.
War On Women is definitely a band on the rise. Check out their remaining tour dates below. For more information head over to their Linktree page and singer Shawna’s Patreon.
