Fan Review: ROB ZOMBIE at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Woodlands. TX, 8/21/22
First off, let’s get this straight: Rob Zombie still has it. He’s always been one hell of a showman and tonight’s show in The Woodlands outside of Houston, TX was no different.
Playing along with tour mates Powerman 5000, Static-X, and Mudvayne, tonight is the very last stop of his 21 city Freaks On Parade summer tour.
It’s hot. It’s humid. We’re tired. But as soon as the smoke machines start doing their thing and the Prince track “1999” starts to play, all of that is forgotten as I, along with 16,000 other fans in attendance, eagerly await the appearance of Mr. Zombie himself.
Wearing silver bellbottoms and somehow unaffected but the extreme heat, Zombie energetically ripped through 15 tracks that spanned his musical career, beginning with The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition) and ending with Dragula. Tossed into the mix were White Zombie fan favorites More Human Than Human and Thunder Kiss ’65, and for the latter, as usual, he instructed us all to stick our phones away for 3 minutes. Well, what he actually said was for us to “take your last photo and then put your fucking phone away for 3 fucking minutes.”
Before the Dragula encore, we were treated to a full-length trailer for his upcoming film, The Munsters. This entire tour was likely one giant promotion for the film, which drops 9/27.
