The Davenports, aka songwriter Scott Klass, have released their second single and video of 2021, the self-reflexive anthem, “We’re Talking About You.”
“We’re Talking About You” follows The Davenports video for, “I’m Not Gonna Bother You” which was released over the summer and starred Rebecca Creskoff (Hung, Claws, Mad Men).
When discussing the track and video in a recent press release, Klass said, “In the midst of the pandemic, when I was trying to figure out something to listen to, 9 times out of 10, I wanted to hear something danceable and upbeat. While still listening to my regular rotation of melodic pop, I kept wanting to go back to things like Of Montreal, Spoon, Field Music, etc., if not outright 70’s disco, because it just sounded fun!…
Lyrically, this came out of one of those statements that you repeat a million times in your life, then suddenly realize it would fit into a melody, and you can construct a story around it. In this case, I was having a conversation with a friend who pointed out that I was worrying and complaining unnecessarily about something, to which I countered… ‘come on, you do the same thing all the time’, to which they countered… ‘we’re not talking about me right now, we’re talking about you’. So, label that any way you want – defenisveness, deflection, double standards, etc. in relationships.”
